This year Bethany Baptist is going to celebrate Independence Day by intentionally reaching out to our neighbors during the Dollar Bay parade. We are looking for two “levels” of commitment from our BBC family:
1.) Popsicle/Water Give-Away Volunteers
We are looking for at least 14 individuals to “run” the popsicle/water tent(s). (As of 6/16 we have 5 and are still looking for 9 more!) Volunteers will meet here at 10 am to get things set up and should plan to be ready to start handing out popsicles and bottles of water by 11:00am in time for the parade which begins at noon. When the parade is over, there will be a brief time of clean-up before volunteers can head home.
2.) Intentional Neighboring and Parade Watching
We would love to have lots and lots of BBC families come and mingle with our neighbors at and near the church during the parade. Come watch the parade and attempt to engage someone around you – “This is where we go to church. Do you attend church somewhere?” or “Our church is giving away free water and popsicles, can I bring something back to you?”
Following the parade and clean-up, there will be a light lunch provided for any BBC families who have come to the parade – regardless of whether they started working at 10am or came closer to parade time in order to spectate and engage our neighbors. If you have extended family in town for the holiday, feel free to bring them along to lunch too!
We hope that your family will make this BBC event part of your traditions for the Fourth of July!
