Missions Opportunity: Abraham’s Oasis orphan seeking help

Carlos, one of the Abraham’s Oasis orphans, just graduated from a Baptist Bible college in Ghana and has been accepted to Faith Baptist Bible College in the United States.  He is back in Ethiopia while he tries to make the final arrangements for this exciting step.  Carlos desires to pursue a Master’s Degree in Practical Theology while at Faith Baptist Bible College.

Carlos hopes to obtain a scholarship and work-study program that will cover 50% of his expenses, but needs help raising the rest.

Here is a letter from Ruth Kennedy, one of the women running Abraham’s Oasis, regarding Carlo’s situation:

Bethany Baptist Church,

How exciting to know you folk want to help in this way!

Carlos was abandoned outside a hospital, he was given the name of a volunteer doctor (Carlos is not an Ethiopian name); Maerg was the name of the then medical director and Gebre Selassie means servant of the Triune God! He went to a foster home when he was older but she could no longer care for him and shortly after he started school he came to Grace Village. We are family! I have attached one of my favourite photos of him, an abandoned child, dedicating another abandoned child to the Lord. Truly one of God’s miracles.

Carlos has completed his undergraduate studies well, attending Bible College in Ghana and obtaining a BA in Theology. Now he wants to study for an MA in Practical Theology thus equipping him to do the Lord work in a hard and rather barren land. Shire.

Carlos cost at Faith Baptist College will be:

Room and food $6900; Health Insurance $1220; Sports $125 and if he gets a scholarship it will cover 50% of $14,000 ($7000); that will be for one year and the course will be for two years so double the amount. He will work 20 hours on campus that will cover his incidentals.  Books etc. will be on top of that.

To give to Carlos, you can give online at bmm.org.  The other option is to send a cheque to Baptist Mid-Missions to Ruth C. Kennedy for sub account 020 National / Pastoral Assistance.  Baptist Mid-Missions address is PO Box 308011, Cleveland, Ohio, 44130.

Baptist Mid Missions sends out receipts to all donors and sends me contact details and addresses of donors and I am able to provide them with email updates. This can also be done via FB and Carlos has his own account, we will encourage him to provide regular updates.

God bless you all for your help in this!

Ruth
